Get clarification on our grantmaking process at OHAF

Frequently asked questions

At Ozarks Health Advocacy Foundation, we aim to make online grant applications as easy as possible for nonprofit agencies helping children with critical health needs. We understand how stressful it can be to go through a lengthy application process without knowing the outcome, which is why we have gone to great lengths to make our process as streamlined, user-friendly, and transparent as possible. However, if you still require clarity on certain aspects, you can find answers to frequently asked questions on this page.

What are the criteria to qualify for a grant from OHAF?

To qualify for grant awards from OHAF, your organization should have a presence in one of the following Southwest Missouri counties: Barry, Barton, Cedar, Christian, Dade, Dallas, Greene, Hickory, Jasper, Laclede, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, Polk, St. Clair, Stone, Taney, Webster, or Wright. Organizations must have a current 501 (c)(3) Public Charity Status from the Internal Revenue Service with no delinquent final reports from previous grants and must submit a concept letter for review. If your funding request pertains to children’s critical medical, mental, and dental health-related needs, you will be eligible.

What are the deadlines for submitting a concept letter?

Concept letters are due the last working day in March for a July grant award and the last working day in September for a February grant award. Concept letters must be submitted within these deadlines to be considered by the board.

When can I submit a grant application?

You may submit a grant application after the Foundation has approved your concept letter and you have received a request in writing. Grant applications are due the last working day in May for July grants and the last working day in November for February grants. Applications should be submitted within these deadlines to be considered by the board.

Is there a maximum grant amount I can request?

OHAF does not currently impose a minimum or maximum restriction on grant applications. However, you will need to submit your proposed budget and other sources of income for your project when applying to us for grant awards. The board of directors will consider your prior use of grant funds and the Foundation’s other funding obligations before deciding on the final amount to award your organization. The average grant amount awarded is about $4,000.

How long after approval will we receive the funds?

Grant awards are sent by mail in July and February.

If we have received a grant from the Foundation, can we apply again?

Organizations may not apply for grants in two consecutive cycles. You are eligible for the current cycle if you did not receive funds in the prior cycle.

Can we reapply if our concept letter or grant application was denied?

Yes, you can reapply. While OHAF is committed to making better healthcare for children possible, circumstances may not allow us to fund every project. However, we encourage you to seek our assistance again if you were not successful on the first attempt. If your application was denied, you are eligible to submit a new concept letter during the next cycle.
